Salido Beats Up JuanMa, Again.
By Alexander Damien
Roberto Clemente Coliseum in San Juan, Puerto Rico- In a all out war, WBO Featherweight champion Orlando Salido (38-11-2 26 KOs) stopped Juan Manuel Lopez (31-2, 28 KOs) Saturday night in the 10th round to retain his championship belt.
From the opening bell, the fight was fast and furious. With Salido dominating the exchanges with harder, cleaner shots being landed. Lopez’s defense was nowhere to be found, similar to their first encounter, in which Salido knocked out Lopez in the 8th round.
In the fifth, Lopez showed signs of life by knocking Salido down with a quick, short right hook, in what was his best punch of the fight.
The ninth round was an all out war between the two. Both fighters landed huge, punishing shots with neither going down. It could easily be called the “Round of the year”.
In the tenth, Salido was able to put a strong combination together to put the Puerto Rican star out. With 32 seconds left in the round, the ref stepped in and called the fight as JuanMa was completely out of it.
With the win, Salido can either move ahead and face up and comer Mikey Garcia, or he can put his title on the line one last time against JuanMa and complete the epic trilogy.
