In an explosively dominant performance, Thomas “La Tormenta” Dulorme (14W-0-11KO’s) would go on to demolish Azusa, California’s Aris “Azteca Azul” Ambriz (16W-3L-8KO’s-1D) at 2:12 of the first round to claim the vacant NABF Welterweight title. Originally slated to face Riverside, California’s Jose “El Nino” Reynoso (15W-3L-2KO’s-1D) in a highly anticipated showdown, an unfortunate hip injury for Reynoso would derail the long-awaited collision one week prior. The telling blows would begin with a bludgeoning left hand that immediately sent Ambriz tumbling to the canvas.

Ambriz arose to beat the count on shakey legs. Dulorme knew right away that the moment was his and took full advantage; quickly pouncing on his wobbly foe with a monstrous assault followed by a crushing right to end his opponent’s night early.
On the co-feature, Jonathan “Mantequilla” Gonzalez (15W-0-13KO’s) grinded out a thrilling ten round unanimous decision victory over Youngstown, Ohio’s Billy Lyell (24W-11L-5KO’s). Lyell began with an early lead on the scorecards, boxing effectively and using his jab to throw Gonzalez off his game. Gonzalez would begin digging to the body to slow down Lyell’s momentum. His strategy would prove the difference as Lyell started to fatigue and breathe with his mouth open as the fight wore on. With plenty of back and forth exchanges, Gonzalez would come away with the hard fought win. Two judges scored the contest 98-92, while the other judge had it 97-93.
On the undercard, featherweight prospect, Rufino Serrano (12W-3L) of Santa Maria, California would be victorious over Las Vegas, Nevada’s Rodrigo Aranda (8W-16L-2KO’s-2D) after an accidental low blow by Serrano in the sixth round caused the bout to be halted. Due to the time of the stoppage, Serrano had been ahead on the scorecards. One judge scored the bout 57-56, while the other two scored it 59-54 in favor of Serrano.
In addition, Armenian featherweight talent, Azat Hovhannesyan (2W-1L-2KO’s) succeeded in annihilating Victorville, California’s William Fisher (0-5L) in brutal fashion, causing the referee to stop the contest at 2:43 of the fourth round. In a one-sided turn of events, Hovhannesyan revealed why he is a force to be reckoned with.
Undefeated featherweight novice, Roy Tapia (3W-0-2KO’s) rapidly leveled Yeniki Brice (0-5L) at 2:34 of the first round with a rib-breaking combination, followed by a destructive left hook to earn the win.
Also, unbeaten Super bantamweight, Roman Morales (9W-0-6KO’s) would go on to defeat Ernie Marquez (9W-9L-2KO’s-3D) in a real test of self-worth. Despite Marquez getting dropped countless times by Morales, it would not be enough to get the nod. My hat goes off to Marquez for such a tremendous effort.
